When visiting Alta and Snowbird there are many dining options. Snowbird has seven sit down type restaurants and various “on the go” options. Alta has five lodges that welcome outside guests to dine with them; At times they are unable to acomadate outside guest making it difficult to make dinner plans. Then there is us The shallow Shaft Restaurant, the only independent restaurant in little cottonwood canyon.
You will notice things are a little bit different at the Shaft right from beginning. We like to think of it as fine dining in a casual atmosphere. The servers are knowledgeable about both the food and wine but not stuck up about it. They are professionals, but keep the atmosphere laid back and make sure that you have the dining experience that you want. The food is always amazing and with a wine list that contains over 25 wines by the glass and over 250 different bottles we are sure that you will find something to drink.

There are lots of dining options in or around Salt Lake City. Some of my favorite places to dine in Salt Lake City include: Pago, Martine and Cucina Toscana. All are wonderful choices but What about those that require a little more effort to get to . I’m talking about all the extraordinary dining options in Park City and also the surrounding mountain towns. How about the Silver Fork Lodge in Big Cottonwood, Log Haven in Millcreek Canyon and of course yours truly The Shallow Shaft in Little Cottonwood Canyon. These fine dining options not only have great food, but the views and the setting will be exquisite.
We are located just 1 mile east of Snowbird in Alta and truly provide a unique fine dining experience. Whether you come for Chef Kurtis’ amazing regional menu, the wait staff’s unique, and friendly approach to serving, or Peri’s in depth wine list, one thing is for sure: The Shallow Shaft is a dining experience unlike any other you have had in a Salt lake city restaurant. All this while watching the sunset, or the moon rise over the mountains in Alta. Life doesn’t get much better than that.

Well the time has come and it is opening night for us here at the Shallow Shaft Restaurant. We are all excited about the opening this winter as it means that more snow should be on the way for Alta and Snowbird, as we all know we need it. If you are a regular customer you will notice a few new faces, we have two new bartenders Carlo who has been with us in the past, and Jeff who has been in the canyon at the Alta lodge for over 10 years. We also have a new front of the house manager, Mike who brings 18 years of restaurant experience and has been in the canyon for 11 years. He will be splitting time in the front of the house with current General manager Matt. We are elated to have them and They are all very eager to get going.
The wait staff is the same great staff you have come to know and love over the years. We are all very excited about the new changes to the menu, Chef Kruase has done a superb job bringing in new dishes into what has always been one of the nicest menus in Alta/Snowbird. The staff is very excited for next Monday as Peri Will be giving us a run down on many new and exciting wines for this winter. Peri has always kept the Shallow Shafts wine list at the top of lists in Alta and Snowbird, and has grown the list to be one of the top lists in the state. So it is always a joy to serve from.

We use locally grown and produced ingredients and we support the slow food / organic cause. Our menu features Wild Game, Fresh Seafood, Pastas, Poultry and Angus Beef prepared in a traditional manner with a creative flair.

Opening day is on Wednesday, December 2nd at 5:30 PM.
We will be open Wednesday through Sunday at 5:30 PM through December 15th.
We will be open daily at 5:30 PM starting on Wednesday December 16th
